Accessible and usable sites as per the Stanca law dated 4/2004
- Requirement 1
The content published result to comply to the advice W3C of XHTML 1.0.
The DTD used is of the Strict type. The pages have been validated through the
validator of mark language of W3C.
The pages of the search engine contain some ineliminable yet condemned elements,
due to the default setting of Webinator, which don’t invalidate the accessibility
of the same pages.
The semantic value of the tags and attributes has been observed in all the
site.
- Requirement 2
Any frame hasn’t been used to create the site.
In the example page on the frame usage, inside the article XHTML tag by tag,
it has been used a frame structure with didactic aim, only to show its meaning.
- Requirement 3
All non text objects contained in the pages contain an appropriate text equivalent. In
XHTML code, any decorative image hasn’t been used: such images, when
present, are background images, managed through style sheets.
- Requirement 4
All the content and functionalities of the site are identifiable and reachable
no matter the colour that identifies them. The pages don’t loose any
information, even if visualized in grey scale. The convention used for the
links is that all links are blue and underlined; the visited links are dark
orange and underlined.
- Requirement 5
There are no animated or flashing texts in the site.
- Requirement 6
The colours of the site are tested through evaluation tools that use the algorithm.
As per W3C advice. The contrast threshold between background colours and
foreground has been observed in all the pages.
No image has been used to substitute texts.
- Requirement 7
There are no sensitive maps inside the site.
In the example page for the map usage, inside the article XHTML tag by tag,
an image map client side has been visualized with a didactic purpose, only
to show its meaning.
- Requirement 8
There are no sensitive maps server side in the site.
- Requirement 9
The line headings and columns inside the data charts have been marked correctly.
When necessary some abbreviations for the heading labels.
- Requirement 10
All the charts are structured in order to be read efficaciously by the screen
readers
- Requirement 11
All the graphic part of the site is managed through external style sheets.
The XHTML 1.0 Strict code is validated. It cannot contain formatting elements,
and has been structured in order to read the content also when the style
sheets are disabled.
- Requirement 12
We chose a rigid layout, perfectly visible without horizontal scroll, starting
from a 800x600 resolution. Inside this structure it is possible to resize
as you like all site content keeping all information safe and without object
superimposition.
- Requirement 13
No chart has been used for pagination.
- Requirement 14
All present forms in the site allow people who wish to use assistive technologies
to access the information, the fields and features required to fill in and
send the request. All the labels have been associated explicitly to the respective
controls.
- Requirement 15
We chose not to use script or applet to transfer basic information. With didactic
purpose, the article Making JavaScript accessible uses some scripts in order
to show its features: in all the example shown there is a detailed explanation
of the feature performed.
- Requirement 16
The few script examples that appear in the site can be activated through the
mouse or through keyboard shortcuts.
- Requirement 17
The few script examples that appear in the site have been made compatible with
assistive technologies.
- Requirement 18
The site pages don’t contain multimedia content.
- Requirement 19
We tried to make clear and visible the destination of the links in the site
using significant text also when read out of its context. In many cases we
used the "title" attribute to integrate the link text. The navigation
links have been grouped and all the pages show the possibility to skip the
groups in order to avoid the repetitive reading of links sequence.
Each page allows to skip directly to the content without having to read the
heading titles and navigation menu.
- Requirement 20
There isn’t any important interval in order to use the content in the
site.
- Requirement 21
The published content observes the requirement announced.
- Requirement 22
At the time of the current declaration, the site does not need alternative
pages.
